AMES, Iowa—The No. 20 Iowa State women's basketball team led the entire game Monday evening inside Hilton Coliseum, as the Cyclones delivered a decisive 93-47 win over Cal State Northridge. The win moved Iowa State to 8-2 on the season while the Matadors dropped to 0-12.
Iowa State hit 90 points for the first time since the Cyclones tallied 99 vs. Sacramento State on Nov. 18, 2007. The Cyclones' 46-point margin of victory tied their season high, which was set in Iowa State's last game (73-27 vs Columbia on Dec. 12). The Cyclones also registered a season-high field-goal percentage of 54 percent (34-63).
Iowa State scored a season-high 51 points in the first half to post a 51-15 lead at the break. The first half also saw three Cyclones produce double digits, as Chelsea Poppens, Kelsey Bolte and Hallie Christofferson each scored 11 points before intermission.
Bolte went on to score a game-high 16 points, while Poppens registered a season-best 15. Poppens also tallied a game-high nine rebounds.
Lauren Mansfield delivered a game-high 10 assists which also ties the point guard's season high. Mansfield posted 10 assists against Michigan (Dec. 5, 2010).
Iowa State came out of the break cold, missing its first nine shots from the field in the opening 3:29 of the half. Mansfield broke the cold spell with a 3-pointer with 16:31 remaining in the game.
Panora, Iowa, native Elly Arganbright scored her first career points as a Cyclone with 12:07 remaining in the game when the freshman drilled a 3-pointer from the right elbow. Arganbright would go on to score nine points.
The Cyclones return to action in over a week when they play host to Florida A&M Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum. The contest will be the Cyclones' first game of the Cyclone Challenge.
