Cyclone Notebook
- The Iowa State softball team travels to Omaha, Neb. Tuesday to face Creighton in a doubleheader. The Cyclones are one win shy of the program's 800th win.
- The doubleheader will be the Cyclones final tune-up prior to opening Big 12 play Saturday at Texas Tech.
- The Cyclones went 4-0 last week and are 8-2 over their last 10 games.
- ISU is seventh in the Big 12 in hitting (.292) and ninth in pitching (3.01).
- Rachel Zabriskie, Iowa State's career strikeout leader (519), is just one win shy of becoming ISU's career wins leader. She has 48 career victories and is chasing Lori Young (1984-85), who notched 49 career wins.
- Zabriskie (15-6) is tied with Texas A&M's Rebecca Arbino and Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts for the Big 12 lead with 15 wins this season.
- Over the last 10 games, Zabriskie is 5-1 with a 1.47 ERA and 41 strikeouts.
- The ISU pitching staff as a whole has seen a marked improvement, posting a 1.62 ERA during the stretch. Freshman Tori Torrescano is 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA in four appearances.
- Dalyn Varela is 6-for-her-last-11 (.545). Varela is 8-for-19 (.421) this season with four RBI.
- Over the last 10 games, Bianca Lopez is hitting .393 and has five doubles and two triples.
- Kelsey Kidwell has 38 career stolen bases, leaving her just 10 shy of Adi Blackmon's career mark.
- Alex Johnson and Courtney Wray continue their climb up the career hits chart. Johnson is second with 175 hits and Wray is fifth with 167. Kelsey Kidwell has also jumped into the top-10 and currently sits eighth with 144 career base knocks.
- Wray's batting average has been lower than usual this season, but the senior still finds a way to produce with runners on third and less than two outs, hitting .818 (9-for-11).
- Heidi Kidwell, who is leading the Cyclones this season with a .376 batting average, has moved into the top-10 all-time at ISU. Kidwell just recently reached the minimum at bats and ranks third with a .321 career batting average.
Series Notes Against Creighton
- Iowa State is 23-28-1 all-time against Creighton. The Cyclones are searching for their first win against the Bluejays under Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler, having dropped the last three meetings.
- The last four meetings have been decided by two runs or less.
Gemeinhardt-Cesler Notches Win 100 at Iowa State
- Iowa State head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler recorded her 100th win at Iowa State with a 2-1 victory over Drake. The fifth-year head coach is 109-113 at the school. Her third season at ISU was shortened when she took maternity leave when ISU was 18-4. Gemeinhardt-Cesler is 254-188 in her nine seasons as a collegiate head coach.
