AMES, Iowa - After 34 road games to start the season the Iowa State softball team opens its home campaign Wednesday when it hosts Iowa in its annual Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series contest. The Cyclones enter the game at 21-13 overall after splitting with Big 12 foe Texas Tech last weekend. First pitch from Southwest Athletic Complex is slated for 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Cyclone Notebook
- After a series split against Texas Tech last weekend the Iowa State softball team opens its home slate Wednesday when it hosts Iowa at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
- The Cyclones are 21-13 and are winners of eight of their last nine games.
- Against Tech, ISU dropped the Big 12 opener, 6-3, before winning Sunday's game 4-2.
- Rachel Zabriskie, Iowa State's career strikeout leader (546), became the school's all-time leader for wins with her 50th on Sunday.
- ISU is seventh in the Big 12 in hitting (.290) and eighth in pitching (2.96). In the last nine games the ISU pitching staff has posted a 1.58 ERA and has held opponents to a .204 batting average.
- Zabriskie (17-6) is leading the Big 12 in wins and is second in strikeouts (181) this season. Zabriskie is looking to become the first player in ISU history to record 200 strikeouts twice in a career.
- Bianca Lopez has played a major role in the Cyclones' recent success. The sophomore is hitting .414 with six doubles and two triples during the stretch. Lopez has driven in eight runs in the last nine games. She had driven in just five in the first 59 games of her career.
- Kelsey Kidwell has 38 career stolen bases, leaving her just 10 shy of Adi Blackmon's career mark.
- Alex Johnson and Wray continue their climb up the career hits chart. Johnson is second with 178 hits and Wray is third with 173. Kelsey Kidwell has also jumped into the top-10 and currently sits seventh with 147 career base knocks.
- Wray's batting average has been lower than usual this season, but the senior still finds a way to produce with runners on third and less than two outs, hitting .846 (11-for-13).
- Heidi Kidwell, who is leading the Cyclones this season with a .368 batting average, has moved into the top-10 all-time at ISU. Kidwell just recently reached the minimum at bats and ranks third with a .321 career batting average.
- Heidi Kidwell is third in the Big 12 with 43 hits. She needs 10 to break into the single-season top-10.
Series Notes Against Iowa
- Iowa has a 36-33-1 edge in the all-time series between the intrastate rivals. The series dates back to an April 15, 1975 doubleheader in which the Cyclones won both games.
- The Cyclones last home win against the Hawkeyes came in 1999.
- Iowa State halted a six-game skid against the Hawkeyes in February at the Metrodome Classic, winning 8-2. ISU's eight runs scored was its most against Iowa since 1983.
- Erica Miller and Courtney Wray each drove in three runs in the win. Miller belted her first career homer in the game.
Cyclones Stinging The Ball
- Iowa State is hitting .290 as a team, well above the school record of .270 set in 1995.
ISU has five players with at least 50 at bats hitting over .300.
