AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State senior Alison Lacey was named an Associated Press All-America honorable-mention pick on Tuesday. The Cyclone point guard is the fifth player in school history to earn AP All-America honors.
“Aus (Lacey) certainly had a great year individually and she led our team to another Sweet 16,” ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. “That is what an All-America player does and she is well deserving of this recognition.”
Lacey became the first player in school history to reach 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists. She concluded her career ranked sixth on ISU's all-time scoring list with 1,620 points, third in assists with 528 and 11th in rebounds with 578.
“I'm honored to receive this award,” Lacey said. “My career at Iowa State has meant everything to me and I have been proud to represent this University. There are a lot of great players on the list and I am honored to be among them.”
The Canberra, Australia, native led the Cyclones to a 25-8 overall record and back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. Lacey posted a career record of 99-39 in her four years at Iowa State, and helped ISU go from a seventh-place pick in the 2009-10 Big 12 preseason coaches' poll to a second-place finish along with NCAA Final Four participant Oklahoma.
She is the first Iowa State player to win AP postseason accolades since Lyndsey Medders was an honorable-mention pick in 2007. Anne O'Neil, Angie Welle, and Stacy Frese each won All-America honors from the Associated Press during their ISU careers.
