AMES, Iowa- Five Iowa State tennis student-athletes were named to the 2010 All-Academic Big 12 squads, the league announced Tuesday. Sophomores Marie-Christine Chartier, Tessa Lang and Maria Macedo were named to the first team, along with junior Erin Karonis. Liza Wischer, a junior, was named to the second team.
Karonis, a journalism major, received first-team honors for the second year with a 3.21 cumulative grade-point-average. Chartier, who was honored for the first time, boasts a 3.59 cumulative GPA.
Lang, a kinesiology and health major, holds a 3.85 cumulative GPA, which granted her first- team accolades, while Macedo, a marketing major, earned her first honor with a 3.64 cumulative GPA.
Wischer, a communication studies major, earned second-team honors for the first time with a 3.03 cumulative GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
