OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Iowa State assistant softball coach Jamie Pinkerton has been selected as an assistant coach for the USA Futures National Team, which will compete this summer against the USA National Team and at the World Cup of Softball.
"It is a great honor to have someone on our staff working with the best softball players in the world," Iowa State head softball coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler said. "It shows the quality of coach and person he is to be selected and will be a great experience for him."
Pinkerton, who recently finished his first season at Iowa State, joined the Cyclones after five years as the head coach at the University of Arkansas. In his first year with ISU's program, Pinkerton helped the team set a school record with a .275 batting average. The Cyclones' infielders also improved defensively under Pinkerton, posting a .952 fielding percentage.
Pinkerton and Arkansas coach Mike Larabee will serve under Northwestern head coach Kate Drohan.
"It is an honor to be part of the USA Softball Women's National program," Pinkerton said. "I'm looking forward to working with Kate and Mike this summer. This will be a great opportunity to work with a very talented group of players and coaches."
The team will open play June 16-17 against the USA National Team in Canton, Ohio. The World Cup of Softball will be held July 22-26 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
