AMES, Iowa?The Iowa State gymnastics squad passed out team awards at the team banquet, with senior Ashley Kent earning top honors as the Janet Anson “Key” Gymnast of the Year.
Kent was a consistently strong performer for the Cyclones, as the Calgary, Alberta native ranked as high as No. 9 on beam in 2010 and did not record a fall on the two events she competed on (bars and beam). The senior gymnast scored between 9.825 and 9.875 on beam every meet in her third season as team co-captain. Kent tied for team-high score on beam in 2010, with a 9.875.
Sophomore Celine Paulus earned the Most Improved Award after setting career highs on vault, bars, beam, floor, and the all-around in 2010. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native posted the Cyclones' top vault score of the year with a 9.900. Paulus took fourth-place honors in the all-around at the Big 12 Championship on March 27 in Lincoln, Neb.
Sophomore Michelle Browning earned the Ironwoman Award after competing in the all-around in every Cyclone meet in 2010. The Houston, Texas native qualified for the NCAA Championships in the all-around after a sixth-place finish in the event at the NCAA West Regional. Browning was forced to miss the NCAA Championships because of blood clots in her lungs.
Junior Jacquelyn Holmes will serve as the Cyclones' captain in 2011, a title she held this past season as well.
