AMES, Iowa - Iowa State softball student-athletes Sydni Jones and Rachel Zabriskie have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII second team.
Jones and Zabriskie received the honor from the College Sports Information Directors of America. The recognition includes both academic and athletic achievement and is voted on by sports information directors from within the district.
Jones, a senior from Enid, Okla., boasts a 3.52 GPA in kinesiology/pre-med and is hitting .284 this season with five homers and 20 runs batted in. The first baseman ranks third all-time at Iowa State with 20 career homers.
Zabriskie, an advertising major from Austin, Texas, holds a 3.34 cumulative GPA. She became the first Iowa State pitcher to reach 20 wins in a season since Lori Young in 1985.
The junior is the school's career leader with 611 strikeouts and is the only player in school history to record 200 or more in a season twice in a career. Her 246 strikeouts this season is a single-season record for Iowa State.
Jones and Zabriskie will lead the Cyclones into Lawrence, Kan. this weekend for the final Big 12 series of the season against Kansas.
