AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling team was paced by wins from
Andrew Sorenson and
Jon Reader in a 29-13 loss to sixth-ranked Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones fall to 6-7 in dual competition, while the Cowboys are now 8-2-1 in duals.
Sorenson had a very tight match with Dallas Bailey at 165 pounds. Sorenson used a late takedown and rode Bailey out in the third period after falling behind early in the match to secure a 5-3 victory.
“The last time Andrew wrestled Bailey, Andrew gave up an escape late that changed the match,” Jackson said. “Today, we finished moves and that should give Andrew additional confidence.”
Reader continued his dominance with an 11-2 victory over Mike Benefiel at 174 pounds. He used repeated takedowns and accumulated over four minutes of riding en route to his 26th victory of the season.
“When a guy gives his all and stays in there, as a coach you have to recognize that your wrestler is giving his best effort,” Jackson said.
Iowa State will be in action again Jan., 30 in New York against top-ranked Cornell and Binghamton. The Cornell match will be at noon CST and the Binghamton match will start at 5 p.m. CST.
