Cyclone Notebook
- Iowa State faces its second Big Ten opponent of the season when it travels to Michigan Sunday for the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge. The Cyclones dropped a 66-59 decision to No. 16 Penn State last week at the Nugget Classic before defeating Butler in the second game.
- The Cyclones beat Michigan, 60-47, last season at Hilton Coliseum behind 20 points from Kelsey Bolte, 13 from Lauren Mansfield and 10 from Anna Prins. Mansfield also dished out 10 assists in the game and Iowa State had a 12 rebound (43-31) edge on the glass.
- Today's game is a homecoming of sorts for Midland, Mich. native Jessica Schroll. Midland is just under two hours from Ann Arbor. Growing up, Schroll attended basketball camp two years at UM.
- The last time Iowa State faced three Big Ten opponents in a season was 2007-08 when it played Michigan, Iowa and Minnesota. The Cyclones went 2-1 that season, losing on the road at Minnesota.
- Nikki Moody has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week the last two weeks. The guard averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two games last week.
- Chelsea Poppens continued her strong play last week, averaging 17.0 points and 14.5 rebounds in the games against Penn State and Butler. Poppens, who has three double-doubles in five games, grabbed 17 rebounds against PSU before equaling a career-high 23 points against Butler. Only Baylor's Brittney Griner (5) has more double-doubles in the league than Poppens.
- Moody (5) and Kelsey Harris (4) combined for nine of Iowa State's 10 made three-pointers against Butler. Moody has nine threes this season, which ties her for the team lead with fellow freshman Brynn Williamson.
- The Cyclones are third in the Big 12 and 10th nationally with a +14.4 rebounding margin. Poppens leads the league and is seventh nationally averaging 11.8 rebounds per game.
- Poppens is one of four Big 12 players averaging a double-double. Her 17 rebounds against Butler tie the Big 12 high for the season (BreAnna Brock, Missouri).
- Iowa State has an all-time record of 595-514 (.537), including 358-161 (.690) under the direction of Fennelly.
Streaks and Trends
- Lauren Mansfield has started 38 consecutive games, the most on the team. She has at least one assist in every game she has played.
- Chelsea Poppens has three-straight double-doubles. She has posted double-digit rebounds in seven-of-her-last-eight games dating back to last season.
- Iowa State has used the same starting lineup for all five games this season.
- Iowa State has outrebounded 12 of its last 13 opponents
- The Cyclones have had at least 20 wins in each of the last five seasons.
Series Notes
- Iowa State and Michigan are meeting for the fourth time and the third since 2007. The Cyclones are 3-0 all-time against the Wolverines, which includes a 73-58 win in Ann Arbor in 1985.
- Bill Fennelly is 5-2 all-time against Michigan, going 3-2 while coaching Toledo and 2-0 as the Iowa State head coach.
- The Cyclones are 82-85 against Big Ten opponents.
- Iowa State's last road win against a Big Ten opponent was Dec. 13, 2009 against Minnesota.
