Cyclone Notebook
- Iowa State closes out 2011 with the annual Cyclone Challenge Dec. 29-30. The Cyclones will face New Hampshire to open the tournament before playing either Buffalo or New Jersey Institute of Technology in the second game. With two wins in the tournament, ISU would reach 600 wins in program history.
- Iowa State is 14-0 in the Cyclone Challenge since it started in 2004-05.
- The Cyclones beat Northern Iowa in their last game, disposing of the Panthers 84-57 at Hilton Coliseum on Dec. 20. The win was ISU's ninth in a row over the Panthers and gave the Cyclones a sweep of their instate opponents for the first time since 2007-08. The 84 points scored by the Cyclones was a season high.
- Chelsea Poppens returned to the lineup after missing the Mississippi Valley State game (knee) and led the way with 20 points and 14 rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
- Poppens was joined in double figures by Nikki Moody (15), Anna Prins (12) and Fallon Ellis (10).
- The Cyclones shot a season-high 50.8 percent from the field against the Panthers. ISU also held a 48-20 edge in rebounding.
- Chassidy Cole has 23 assists and just two turnovers in the last four games.
- Poppens has posted double-digit rebounds in six of the eight games she has played in this season. The junior, who had eight and nine boards in the other two games, leads the Big 12 averaging 11.6 rebounds per game.
- Iowa State ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring defense and 12th nationally. The Cyclones are holding opponents to just 51.3 points per game on 33.4 percent shooting from the field.
- Poppens is one of two Big 12 players averaging a double-double (Brittney Griner). Her 17 rebounds against Butler tie the Big 12 high for the season (BreAnna Brock, Missouri).
- Iowa State has controlled the paint early this season. The Cyclones are outscoring their opponents by more than 14 points in the paint per game (28.9-14.4).
- Poppens needs 47 more rebounds to move into 10th place all-time at Iowa State. Barb Gordon (1991-94) is currently 10th with 624 career boards.
- Anna Prins reached 600 career points in her last game. The junior also needs just three rebounds to reach 300 in her career.
- Iowa State has an all-time record of 598-515 (.537), including 361-162 (.690) under the direction of Fennelly.
