IRVING, Texas - Iowa State senior Kesley Bolte and sophomores Anna Prins and Jessica Schroll have earned spots on the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team, the league office announced.
Bolte, a guard from Ida Grove, Iowa, earned first-team honors as a communication studies major. On the court, Bolte is among the league's best players, averaging 18.5 points per game and ranking among leaders in numerous statistical categories. This is the third time Bolte has been recognized by the league, but her first time on the first team.
Bolte was joined on the first team by center Anna Prins, who is an elementary education major. The Broomfield, Colo., native is averaging 9.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in her sophomore season.
Schroll, a guard from Midland, Mich., is majoring in elementary education. She earned a spot on the second team. Schroll is averaging 3.1 points and 3.0 rebounds in 21 games this season.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the women's basketball academic all-league squad consisted of 30 first team members combined with 16 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
