AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team (5-1, 0-0 Big 12) heads south this weekend to San Marcos, Texas where it will play against host Texas State and Purdue in the CenturyLink Classic.
The Cyclones hope to continue their hot hitting from last weekend's Cyclone Indoor Invitational when they hit a Big 12 leading .423 with 69 hits in 163 at bats. Outfielder Bianca Lopez led all Cyclone hitters, batting .692 on the weekend and drawing a league-best nine walks.
Senior starting pitcher Rachel Zabriskie picked up where she left off in 2010, striking out at least one batter swinging in each of her first 11 innings, spanning two games. For the weekend, Zabriskie had a swinging strikeout in 12 of her 14 innings pitched while picking up her 12 career shutout over Western Illinois and earning wins 54 and 55.
Friday's game against the Texas State Bobcats starts at 6 p.m. CST at Bobcat Field on the Texas State University campus.

Cyclone Notebook
- The Cyclones opened 2011 one a five-game winning streak after facing Creighton, Western Illinois South Dakota State and Valparaiso at the Cyclone Indoor Invitational.
- The team will travel to San Marcos, Texas this weekend to face Purdue and Texas State in the CenturyLink Classic, hosted by Texas State.
- Iowa State's only loss of the weekend came in the tournament finale against Valparaiso as the Crusaders defeated the Cyclones 11-2 in five innings.

- Junior Bianca Lopez blistered the ball for the Cyclones in the opening weekend, going 9-for-13 (.692) with nine RBI, nine walks and 11 total bases. Lopez added a stolen base for good measure.
- After the first weekend of play, Lopez leads the Big 12 in batting average (.692), on-base percentage (.818) and walks (nine).
- Kidwell is tops in the conference in hits (13), runs (11) and stolen bases (seven).
- After six games, four Cyclones are hitting at or above the .500 mark: Dalyn Varela (.500), Tori Torrescano (.524), Kidwell (.591) and Lopez (.692).
- In their five wins last weekend, the Cyclones outscored their opponents 60-7.
