AMES, Iowa - Kelsey Bolte scored 17 points, 14 in the second half as No. 20 Iowa State pulled away from a 31-28 halftime lead to beat Colorado 71-45 Saturday in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones improve to 6-6 in the Big 12 Conference and 18-8 overall. The Buffaloes are 3-9 in the Big 12 and 12-13 overall. The Iowa State win sets up a big date with Texas Monday at 8 p.m. CST in Ames. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
Lauren Mansfield had 13 points, Jessica Schroll had season-high 11 points and Anna Prins added 10 for the Cyclones. Schroll made the last basket of the game as the final score was Iowa State's largest lead. Iowa State held Colorado to 3-21 shooting in the second half (14.3 percent) while committing a season-low six turnovers. Brittany Spears led Colorado with 13 points.
The margin was Iowa State's largest in a conference win since Jan. 20, 2007, a 27-point win at Kansas.
The contest was Iowa State's 510th consecutive game with a three-point field goal, dating back to Feb. 15, 1995. That total ties the NCAA record, set by Canisius College, which was the record holder before not generating a trey in its last game.
Iowa State steadily pulled away from Colorado. A three from Bolte with 17:45 remaining and ensuing baskets by Mansfield and Hallie Christofferson gave the Cyclones a 39-30 lead with 14:04 to go. The Buffaloes did not make a basket in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Iowa State built up a 49-34 advantage before Colorado's Julie Seabrook hit a three from the baseline with 9:46 to break the second-half ice for the Buffs.
Colorado jumped to an early 10-5 lead when Wilson drove the length of the floor and put in a jumper. That followed threes by Britney Blythe and Chelsea Dale as the Buffaloes hit four of their first six shots. It was then that Colorado's physical style started to get the Buffs in foul trouble. Iowa State went into the bonus at 13:31 mark. Seven straight free throws put the Cyclones ahead 12-10 at with 12:43 left. It was 17-12 when Bolte hit her first three with 11 minutes left to end a 12-2 Iowa State run over a three-minute span. But Colorado closed the gap before halftime.
Bolte missed the last 11 minutes of the first half after picking up her second foul. Iowa State scored 12 points off of Colorado's first-half turnovers.
