AUBURN, Wash. - The 19th-ranked Iowa State women's golf team fired a 304 today in first-round action at the NCAA West Regional in Auburn, Wash. The Cyclones are currently tied for 10th in the 24-team field, 16 shots behind first-place and No. 1-ranked USC at 288.
Senior Victoria Stefansen paced the Cyclones on the first day with an opening-round 74 to put her in a tie for 17th place. Laurence Herman is in a tie for 41st after carding a 76 this afternoon. Punpaka Phuntumabamrung and Prima Thammaraks are in a tie for 54th after recording a pair of 77s.
Tennessee's Erica Popson leads the medalist race after carding a 68 in the first round.
The second and third rounds will be conducted with 18 holes on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The top eight teams after 54 holes will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 18-21.
