AMES, Iowa - Haymarket, Va. native Miranda Kemp will begin her Cyclone pitching softball career next season, but in the mean time the Battlefield High standout continues her tear through Virginia Group AAA softball.
After collecting three wins for Battlefield during the week of May 24-31, Kemp was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School Player of the Week in the South Region. Kemp threw two shutouts, one no-hitter, allowed one run, none earned, and three hits while striking out 31 during the three game stretch.
"Miranda is a great addition to our staff," head softball coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler said last fall. "She has high-quality experience and good velocity and command."
An Amateur Softball Association champion in 2008 and 2009 with the Shamrocks fast pitch team, Kemp and entered the state championship tournament boasting a 0.58 ERA for Battlefield while holding batters to a .073 batting average on the season.
On Friday, Kemp and the Bobcats defeated Hickory High in the state semifinals, 6-5. Battlefield will face the winner of Lee-Davis/Grassfield on Saturday in the championship game at 1 p.m. CDT.

"Representing the South Region, Kemp pitched her team to three victories last week including 2 shutouts, one of which was a no-hitter. In 19 innings she struck out 31 and yielded only 3 hits recording an ERA of 0.00. For the season the senior has posted an ERA of .58, while holding opposing hitters to a .073 batting average. In 97 innings pitched she has struck out 161 and has walked a mere 23 batters. Her efforts in the circle helped Bobcats improve their record to 21-1, 8-0 in conference."
