MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Doubles and singles flights got underway today at the 2011 Gopher Invitational for Iowa State tennis. Iowa State met multiple teams in duals at the Baseline Tennis Center, and the squad picked up both wins and losses in the first and second rounds.
Jenna Langhorst and
Emma Waites doubled up against Wisconsin's Alaina Trgovich and Nicky Stracar and fell by an 8-1 tally. The duo then moved on to defeat LSU's Kaitlin Burns and Rebecca Bodine in a close 8-6 match, which will bring the girls to face Hawkeye pair Ellen Silver and Ally Majercik on Saturday morning.
Two Cyclones advanced in singles play today. Reber enjoyed a singles win in addition to her doubles victory, overpowering Bradley's Cassia Wojtalik 6-0, 6-2. Reber will face Ally Majercik of Iowa on Saturday afternoon for the second round.
Chelsea Loprinzi started her senior campaign off right with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) win over Gustavus' Mallory Shellum. Loprinzi advances to face UW-Milwaukee's Beth Ganser at noon on Saturday.
The Cyclones will continue their momentum tomorrow when the second and third round duals arrive.
