DUBUQUE, Iowa - Two Iowa State wrestlers placed at the Flash Flanagan Open Saturday. True freshmen Aaron Sorenson and Tyler Swope each competed unattached for Iowa State, while redshirt freshman Scott Moody wrestled attached at the tournament, which was hosted by Loras College.
Sorenson and Swope each finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Moody competed at 133 pounds and finished 2-2 at the tournament, scoring bonus points in both of his victories.
At 149 pounds, Sorenson won his first match by fall at 3:46 and was victorious in his his next two matches. He dropped the semifinal match to Clay Welter of Northern Iowa. Sorenson posted another pin at 2:19 against Adam Garcia of Coe College, but lost a close decision to Josh Lewis of Dubuque in the third-place final.
Heavyweight Tyler Swope dominated his first match of the day with a fall in 30 seconds against Zach Tooley and shut out Jake Johnson of Luther 7-0 in the second round. In the third place final, Conner Herman of Luther edged past Swope 4-3.
