Heidi Kidwell will not return this season after suffering a career-ending injury in the at the beginning of 2012 and redshirting the 2012 season.
A starting outfielder for Iowa State since playing 40 of 50 games as a freshman, Kidwell led the Cyclones in hitting in 2010 with a .328 average and became the fourth player in Iowa State history to reach 60 hits in a season.
The Solon, Iowa native repeated her offensive success in 2011 when she moved into the leadoff spot vacated by her sister, Kelsey, who graduated at the end of the 2010 season. Kidwell, who earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2011, will finish work on her degree in elementary education at Iowa State.
“Although she will not be able to play softball this season, Heidi is continuing to work on her degree in elementary education and will finish up her degree after student teaching in the spring.” Gemeinhardt-Cesler said. “We're very proud of how hard Heidi has always worked in the classroom and it will be great to see another Cyclone student-athlete graduate in the spring.”
