AMES, Iowa - Iowa State junior forward Chelsea Poppens came to Ames as a relatively unheralded recruit. After two and a half years in Ames, the hardworking fan favorite has established herself as one of the Big 12 and nation's top players and is an All-America candidate for the Cyclones.
Poppens, an Aplington, Iowa native, leads the Big 12 in rebounding (11.0 rpg) and is tied with Baylor's Brittney Griner for the conference lead with 11 double-doubles. She is one of just three BCS conference players to rank in the top-30 nationally in rebounding (ninth) and field goal percentage (26th).
Opposing coaches rave about Poppens' effort and Cyclone Nation roars following her diving rebounds and the many charges taken.
Fans can watch Poppens and the Cyclones tonight as they host Kansas at 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. The game will be shown live on the Clone Zone at cyclones.com.
