In the earlier meeting, Crusader starting pitcher Sam McGee held Iowa State to three runs in five innings and struck out four batters. Offensively, designated player Brittany Duncan drove in four of Valpo's 11 runs on 2-of-4 hitting in the game.
This weekend will mark the first-ever meetings for Iowa State against UTEP and Brown. The hosting Miners are 4-10 this season and on a 10 game losing streak after starting the season 4-0. Brown opens its season on Friday against UT-San Antonio.

Torrescano added two two-run home runs in the game and freshman Lexi Slater led off the game with the first home run of her Cyclone career.
