HONOLULU, Hawaii – Iowa State (2-7) kicked off its trip to Hawaii with a 6-1 win over Eastern Michigan (4-7) Thursday afternoon at the University of Hawai'i Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Cyclones clinched the match early despite losing the doubles point to the Eagles. Four of the singles decisions were made in three sets, and Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa attributed it to Eastern Michigan's resilience.
“They are a very good team,” Espinosa said. “It was tough, and I think the rain delay took a little energy off. We stayed strong throughout and we were able to win it that way.”
With the first match behind them, the Cyclones will practice once more tomorrow to get ready to take on the No. 52 ranked University of Hawai'i Saturday afternoon.
