FORT MYERS, Fla. – Iowa State (12-13, 0-0 Big 12) continues its Florida tour on Tuesday with a midweek game at Florida Gulf Coast, a first-time opponent for the Cyclones.
The Florida sun has acted as a catalyst for freshman
Brittany Gomez who hit .667 during last weekend's Tournament at Clearwater. Gomez collected 10 hits, three RBI, four stolen bases, three walks and hit an in-the-park home run in Iowa State's win over Temple.
Tori Torrescano and
Erica Miller also hit home runs in the win over the Owls; Torrescano now has nine homers on the year, including two against Liberty in the weekend's first game, and Miller has 30 career home runs, making her one of two Cyclone players to ever reach the 30 long ball mark – Torrescano is the other, sitting on 37 career home runs.
On Tuesday, Iowa State will face an Eagles team on a five-game win streak and offers players who can hit for power and race around the bases. Chelsea Zgrabik is the biggest offensive threat for FGCU, hitting .356 this season with nine doubles, 10 home runs and 43 RBI.
Jessica Barnes, who is hitting .337 and has walked a team-high 14 times this season, is 14-of-15 in stolen base attempts. She and three other Eagles have at least five steals on the year and are a combined 33-for-35 in steal attempts.
Tuesday's game is set for 5 p.m. CST at the FGCU Softball Complex on the university campus.
