Cyclones Kick Off Outdoor Season

PHOENIX, Arizona- The Iowa State track and field kicked off the outdoor season Friday and Saturday at the ASU Invitational. Junior Ryan Sander led the Cyclones with a first place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. The hurdler finished with a personal best time of 14.33.

Ese Okoro led the Cyclone women in the 400-meter hurdles with a first-place time of 57.84. Donnise Powell finished third (59.39) and Krista Shoeman came in sixth (1:01.56) in the race.

Three Iowa State women competed in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Kendra White completed her first outdoor track and field race as a Cyclone with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 55.00. Dana Christensen earned sixth place (56.57) and Jessica Nichols came in 10th (57.69).

Kendra White finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.59. Jessica Nichols also competed in the event coming in 18^th (25.79).

Sophomore Nick Efkamp finished fourth in the 200-meter dash. The Madrid native finished the race in a time of 21.42. Ivan Tamba finshed 15^th in the event (22.29) and Jared Ingram came in 19^th (22.78).

Greg Kufahl earned third place in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.21. Richie Bales competed for the first time this year for the Cyclone in the event. The Pella native finished in ninth place in a time of 51.13.

The Iowa State men's 4x100-meter relay team came in a close second with their time of 40.55. Only Kansas State's time of 40.49 was able to edge the Cyclones.

Cole Chesnut finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.11

200-meter dash: 1)Taylor Evans, Unattached, 23.91; 5) Kendra White, IOWA STATE, 24.59; 18)Jessica Nichols, IOWA STATE, 25.79.

100-meter dash: 1) Devan Spann, Arizona State, 10.61; 2) Ian Warner, IOWA STATE, 10.62.

400-meter dash: 1) Chris Burrows, Arizona State, 47.94; 3) Greg Kufahl, IOWA STATE, 49.21; 9) Richie Bales, IOWA STATE, 51.13.

110-meter hurdles: 1) Ryan Sander, IOWA STATE, 14.33.

4x100-meter relay: 1) Kansas State, 40.49; 2) IOWA STATE, 40.55.
