AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (6-2, 0-0 Big 12) is heading north to Minneapolis this weekend to take on Minnesota (6-2, 0-0 Big 10) Friday and Marshall (5-2, 0-0 Conference USA) Sunday.
The Cyclones are riding a three-match winning streak when they face the Golden Gophers Friday. Last weekend, Iowa State defeated Florida Atlantic, 6-1, in Miami and Bethune-Cookman, 5-1, in Daytona Beach. Minnesota beat Oregon last Sunday, 6-1.
“It's going to be a good measuring stick before the Big 12 to see how we fare against these teams,” head coach Armando Espinosa said. “We should be pretty confident after these last three wins, especially two on the road and playing in the elements. I think we have a chance to continue to win here.”
Marshall is currently ranked No. 70 in ITA, coming off of a 4-3 win over Penn last Saturday.
“Both teams are going to be quality opponents," Espinosa said. "Marshall will be our first ranked opponent. They played Penn State and beat them, but that's our only reference. Minnesota on the other hand, we've seen them before, and I think that's sometimes a little bit more beneficial.”
Play will begin at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Friday at 6 p.m.
