Each day a member of the Iowa State women's basketball team will write a blog detailing our adventures in Italy. In today's blog, freshman Emily Durr details our final day in Venice and our visit to Trieste. To follow along on our journey even more closely, please follow @CycloneWBB.
For our pre-game meal we ate pasta, chicken, potatoes and fruit pizza which was AMAZING!!! Being from New York, we have a rich Italian culture and this meal reminded me of home so much. I even thought we might have to physically remove Denise "D" (our trainer) from the fruit pizza because she couldn't get enough.
After our meal we went on a tour of Trieste. The architecture was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxing unlike Venice, which was unbelievably crowded.

Personally I found it very interesting to learn about an ancient wall that stood as the wall of a ghetto during the Holocaust and the Facist Era of Italy. At the end of our tour, four men began to dance in the central plaza of Trieste to traditional Italian music, which was very entertaining to say the least.
After our tour we had time to relax before traveling to our game. So of course free time equals gelato time!! So Brynn and I were faced with the most difficult decision of the trip, what flavor of gelato to buy. We finally made a decision and I happily got vanilla and Brynn got hazelnut and vanilla.
Around 6 p.m., we began our 20 minute drive to our second game. The game was tough and the competition even tougher, however we pulled out the win (score) and improved our play from the first game! GO CYCLONES!!!! Just like the first game, we exchanged gifts before the game and took pictures with our Italian opponents after the game. We then ate the staple food of Italy PIZZA, and made the journey back home. All in all today was a great day. Stay tuned tomorrow as Jordan Jensen blogs about our trip to Lake Como!
