INDIANAPOLIS – Iowa State women's basketball senior guard Nicole “Kidd” Blaskowsky has been nominated for the 2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team, the organization announced Wednesday. The award seeks to spotlight student-athletes who have shown dedication to community service and altruism in their communities.
Blaskowsky was one of 103 nominees in women's basketball. During her time at Iowa State, Blaskowsky has volunteered at dozens of community service events and used her platform as a student-athlete to positively influence the Ames community.
Blaskowsky has been involved with the St. Jude Walk, ISU Homecoming Pep Rally, Junior Cyclone Club events, 1-35 Program, Special Olympics, Miracle League and Midnight Madness. She has also spent time at local elementary and middle schools along with visits to Green Hills Retirement Home during her time at Iowa State.
She was also chosen as Iowa State's Farm Strong women's basketball representative, which is given to the student-athlete from each sport that exemplifies the character and work ethic of the Iowa farmer and what it means to be an Iowan.
From the list of 103 student-athletes, a 10-member team will be comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be announced in February.
