IRVING, Texas - Iowa State freshman guard Bridget Carleton was named the Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday. Carleton's honor is her second of the season and the Cyclones third Freshman of the Week award this year. The Cyclones are the only Big 12 school to earn the honor three times this season.
In Iowa State's lone game of the week, Bridget Carleton netted 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished five assists in 28 minutes of action as she re-entered the Cyclone starting lineup.
The Chatham, Ontario, native also went a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe as Iowa State defeated Alcorn State 91-41. Carleton's five assists set a career high. She is also averaging 14.3 points per game, which ranks in the top-10 in the Big 12 and the most among freshmen.
Iowa State is known for developing freshmen talent as the Cyclones have seen nine different players earn Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors over the last five seasons, while no other Big 12 school has had more than five.
Iowa State returns to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 21 when it takes on Northern Arizona at 2 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
