Cyclone Headlines
- After an undefeated weekend at home, the Cyclones begin a five-week stretch on the road, starting off with the Battle at the Beach, hosted by Coastal Carolina.
- The Cyclones will play a pair of games against Ole Miss and hosts Coastal Carolina while also taking on St. Bonaventure across the weekend.
- ISU went a perfect 4-0 at the Cyclone Indoor Invitational last weekend, picking up a pair of wins against both South Dakota State and Utah State.
- The Iowa State offense hit .350 on the weekend, led by the trio of Rachel Hartman, Brittany Gomez and Maddie Reese, all of whom hit over .400.
- Hartman, a sophomore catcher, led the Cyclones with a .545 batting average, driving home five runs and slugging 1.091 with three doubles and a home run among her collection. As a freshman, Hartman recorded one of the top seasons in Iowa State history by any player, breaking ISU freshman records in five categories.
- Gomez, a 2014 NFCA All-Region selection, recorded seven hits en route to a .467 batting average. She was busy on the basepaths, too, recording four stolen bases. Gomez has 148 hits in her career and is only three away from breaking into ISU's all-time top 10 for career hits.
- Reese, a senior from Pittsford, N.Y., had a power surge over the weekend, recording two home runs, a triple and five RBIs while hitting .455. Reese struggled in 2014, only recording 10 hits and six RBIs while not having any home runs or triples.
- Cyclone hurler Katie Johnson had a strong weekend, not allowing an earned run in 19.0 innings of work while earning all four wins. Johnson recorded two complete game shutouts, while opponents hit just .227 off of her.
- The first weekend of the season saw Iowa State put several new faces onto the field for the first time. The Cyclones started five freshmen with Nycholle Antillon (third base) and Kelsey McFarland (outfield) starting all four games. Kaila Konz and Gabby Voulgaris also posted starts in the first weekend of the season. Pitcher Brianna Weilbacher started a pair of games, and through she gave up five earned runs, hitters are only batting .214 off the hurler.
