CONWAY, S.C. - Due to the impending below freezing temperatures and participating team travel schedules, the final day of games at the "Battle at the Beach" has been cancelled, Coastal Carolina officials announced Saturday night. Iowa State's game against hosts Coastal Carolina, originally scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. local/11:30 a.m. Central, will not be made up.
Iowa State finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, winning its first game against Ole Miss 4-2 and edging out St. Bonaventure 3-2 in its final game. The Cyclones also fell to Coastal Carolina 13-3 and Ole Miss 13-5 during the duration of the tournament.
On the weekend, the Cyclones were led by
Brittany Gomez, who hit .500 across the four games, going 7-for-14 at the plate. That included her second career home run, a solo shot to lead off the first game against Ole Miss. Gomez also recorded a perfect 5-for-5 weekend stealing bases, and is now 9-for-9 on the year.
Maddie Reese drove in the most runs during the weekend for ISU with four.
Iowa State will be back in action next weekend in San Antonio at the UTSA Classic. The Cyclones will play three games, starting with a doubleheader Friday against Incarnate Word at 3 p.m. followed by the host UTSA Roadrunners at 5:30 p.m. ISU will then close out action Saturday morning against Southeast Louisiana at 10 a.m.
