AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team will start the 2015 season Friday with the 2015 Cyclone Indoor Invitational at the Bergstrom Football Complex. Admission is free.
The event, which runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and features South Dakota State and Utah State along with hosts Iowa State, will have free admission. More information for fans interested in attending this weekend's games, including a full schedule, can be found

ISU opens the tournament with Utah State Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. Saturday features a doubleheader for the Cyclones, playing USU again at noon and taking on South Dakota State at 2:30 p.m. Iowa State closes out the tournament Sunday against SDSU at 11:30 a.m.

Cyclone Headlines
- The 2015 Iowa State softball season kicks off this weekend at the Bernstrom Indoor Football Facility with the Cyclones taking on South Dakota State and Utah State in a pair of games each.
- Action starts Friday at 5:30 p.m. with ISU taking on USU. The Cyclones then have apair of games on Saturday, taking on the Aggies at noon followed by its first game against SDSU at 2:30 p.m. Iowa State will close out the tournament on Sunday against the Jackrabbits at 11:30 a.m.
- This weekend marks the fifth consecutive season that Iowa State has hosted a home tournament in the Berg to open the season. In that time, Iowa State is 15-3, including a 4-0 record last year over Indiana State and South Dakota State.
- ISU returns six starters from its 2014 lineup, led by a pair of NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team selections in centerfielder Brittany Gomez and designated player Aly Cappaert. The duo were the first Cyclones to earn All-Region First Team honors since 1999.
- Gomez, a junior from New Braufels, Texas, finished 2014 with a .397 batting average and 75 hits, both ranking in ISU's top-five for a single season. After just two seasons, Gomez is Iowa State's all-time stolen bases leader with 55, 24 of which came last season.
- Cappaert, a junior from Ankeny, has quickly become one of the top pwoer hitters in Iowa State history, recording 11 home runs as a sophomore last season while posting a .366 batting average.
- Sophomore catcher Rachel Hartman had one of the top seasons from the plate for an Iowa State debutant. The Las Flores, Calif. native posted a .378 batting average, tops for a freshman and fifth-best in Iowa State history along with ISU freshmen records for RBIs (33), doubles (13), slugging percentage (.557), on-base percentage (.421) and fewest strikeouts (13).
- Shortstop Lexi had a big season at the plate too, recording a school-record 16 doubles in 2014. The Ramona, Calif. native also posted a .345 batting average with eight home runs and 34 RBIs.
- In 2014, for the first time in school history, Iowa State has six players with at least 50 hits (Gomez, Hartman, Slater, Aly Cappaert, Sarah Hawryluk and Jorden Spendlove). Prior to this season, ISU never had five players with at least 50 hits in the same season. The sextet has led ISU to a school-record 451 hits on the season and a school-record .325 batting average, among the top-20 in the NCAA.
