IRVING, Texas - Iowa State women's basketball senior point guard
Nikki Moody earned her first Big 12 Player of the Week award, the league announced Monday. The award is her fourth Big 12 weekly honor, as she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week three times in 2011-12.
Moody averaged a league-high 22.0 points, 7.5 assists and committed just two overall turnovers. The senior from Dallas, Texas scored a career-high and a game-high 30 points against the Sooners and became just the third Big 12 player to record a 30-point game this season in conference play. She set career-highs in field goals made (11) and attempted (18) and shot 61 percent from the floor as the Sooners had no answer for Moody. She also tallied five assists and just one turnover.
Just one day after being named to the Nancy Lieberman watch list, Moody recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 assists. She also committed just one turnover. Moody's ball handling helped Iowa State earn its first win over the Mountaineers in Hilton Coliseum and kept ISU in third in the Big 12 standings.
Moody's impressive performances earned her an honorable mention shout out by ESPNW, as the senior scored or assisted on 16 of ISU's 23 field goals against OU and even better 14 of ISU's 17 field goals against WVU. On the Week Moody had a hand in 30 of Iowa State's 40 field goals.
Iowa State returns to the court on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Texas Tech. The game will be televised on FCS Atlantic.
