Cyclone Headlines
- The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series will be decided on Wednesday when the Iowa State softball team travels to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in a 6 p.m. game.
- Iowa State currently leads the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series 13-11, with wins in women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's basketball. A win or a tie would give the trophy to ISU for the second-consecutive year, the first time a school won the trophy in consecutive seasons. An Iowa win would mean the Cy-Hawk Series is tied for the year.
- The Cyclones lost its Big 12 home opening series to Oklahoma State, but finished on a strong note by snapping a six-game losing streak and defeating OSU 5-3 in the series finale. The Cowgirls took the first two games 11-1 (5) and 8-6.
- The Iowa State offense was led by Brittany Gomez, who hit .600 on the weekend. Gomez ranks atop the Big 12 with 58 base hits and is second in the conference with a .446 batting average.
- Gomez is sitting on 199 career hits and can become the second player in school history, along with Jenny Condon (1987-90), to reach 200 career hits. With two more hits, Gomez can record the eighth 60-hit season in program history. She already has two of the previous seven and is the only player in school history with multiple 60-hit seasons.
- In the Cyclones' win over UC-Santa Barbara on Mar. 7, Brittany Gomez put up a historic stat line to lead ISU to victory. Gomez went 5-for-5 with four runs, four RBIs and three stolen bases. Gomez's five hits tied the Iowa State single-game record, previously only reached by Carleigh Berry at Missouri State in 2009.
- Aly Cappaert's recent surge continued last weekend against OSU, with the junior DH getting hits in all three games. Across the last eight games, Cappaert is hitting .500 with a .577 OBP and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
- Cappaert is second on the Cyclones with her .354 batting average, while leading the Cyclones in walks (24) and doubles (12).
- Cappaert's walks total is quickly approaching the Iowa State single-season school record of 29, set by Erica Miller and Tori Torrescano in 2013. She is also in hot pursuit of Lexi Slater and Lisa Leinen's single-season doubles record of 16.
