IRVING, Texas - Iowa State freshman guard Bridget Carleton was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the third time in her career, the league announced Monday. The Cyclones have captured Big 12 Freshman of the Week a total of four times, as freshman Meredith Burkhall also earned the honor on Dec. 7.
Carleton averaged 11.0 points and 6.5 rebounds on the week. Against Oklahoma State, she nabbed her third-career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Chatham, Ontario, native went 3-of-8 from beyond the arc against No. 4 Baylor and nabbed nine points, while hauling in five rebounds and denying two shots.
Carleton is also leading all Big 12 freshmen in points (12.9) and rebounds (6.2) and is a candidate for Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
Iowa State is known for developing freshmen talent as the Cyclones have seen nine different players earn Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors over the last five seasons, while no other Big 12 school has had more than five.
Iowa State returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 27 when it takes on TCU at 7 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
