Upcoming Event: Soccer versus North Dakota State on April 18, 2026 at 1 p.m.

10.13.2016 | Soccer
Ames, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team (7-5-1, 1-3-1 Big 12) hosts the Texas Longhorns (7-6-1, 0-3-1 Big 12) in the Cyclones' final home conference game of the season on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex. This is a very critical matchup when determining the conference standings with just a few games remaining.
Iowa State's seven seniors (Kourtney Camy, Mia McAleer, Danielle Moore, Madi Ott, Lauren Roeling, Adalie Schmidt, and Koree Willer) will be honored prior to kickoff for their contributions on and off the field the past four years.
Last Time Out
The Cyclones went 0-1-1 in their two conference bouts last weekend, gaining a valuable point in the Big 12 standings. On Fridaynight, the Iowa State backline and goalkeeper play held strong for the full 110 minutes of action in a 0-0 tie with TCU. It was a very even matchup with the Cyclones coming out with a slight edge in shots, 22-21. The No. 3 West Virginia Mountaineers traveled to Ames for a Sunday matinee. Iowa State battled the entire game and had a few opportunities, but just couldn't quite capitalize. WVU struck early and held on to a 2-0 win, which led them to the No. 1 spot in the current NSCAA poll.
Scouting the Longhorns
Coming into Friday's matchup, the Longhorns are at the bottom of the Big 12 standings with just four games to play. The injury bug has struck Texas early and often. Last season's top two scorers are out for the rest of the season with ACL tears. Mikayla Flores went down in their first regular season game and then Alexa Adams went down against Oklahoma State, Adams was and still is their leading scorer. Five other players have missed time due to injury.
In goal, Paige Brown has played in 11 games including all four conference games. Brown is averaging .95 goals allowed per game. All three of the Longhorns' conference losses have been by just one goal.
What to Watch For
Watch for Iowa State to come out and set the tone. The seniors are prepped to lead the Cyclones back to the Big 12 Championship just like the senior class did the last time Iowa State made the tournament when these seniors were freshmen. Both teams know the importance of this game and they won't go down without a fight. Iowa State's offensive front will need to make the difference in this matchup. The Cyclone defense and especially junior goalkeeper Lindsey Hendon have been playing extremely well and are in good shape to continue what they are working towards.
