FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Iowa State tennis team had another strong performance, finishing 6-3 in action at the Jon Messick Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones started the day with a 2-1 performance in doubles play against Northern Colorado. The duo of Maty Cancini and Annabella Bonadonna remained perfect this weekend by making quick work of the UNC pair of Ella Mora and Courtney Schulte with a 6-1 win. Regina Espindola and Claudia Toledo paired up for a 7-5 victory against the Bears' pair of Beth Coton and Anna Battersby.
In singles action, ISU faced off against Colorado State and finished with a 4-2 mark. Cancini was a straight-set winner against Emily Kolbow, winning 6-2, 6-3 at the top slot. At No. 2 singles, Espindola had no issues with Alyssa Grijalva, winning the match, 6-1, 6-4, as she joined Cancini and teammate Erin Freeman at 2-0 on the weekend.
Freeman went to a third set against Celine Voss and held off the competition with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Sophomore Claudia Toledo earned her first singles win of the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 win against the Rams' Solene Crawley.
The Cyclones conclude action at the tournament Sunday as they face Wyoming in doubles play at noon and Northern Colorado in singles action at 1 p.m.
