FORT WORTH, Texas – Freshman Bridget Carleton set an Iowa State record for most rebounds by a freshman with 19 rebounds against TCU as the Iowa State women's basketball team (12-12, 4-9 Big 12) fell to the Horned Frogs (13-11, 5-8 Big 12), 79-69.
Carleton led the Cyclones with a double-double with 14 points and 19 rebounds, which ties the most by any Big 12 player in a single game this season. Her 19 rebounds also ranks fourth in Iowa State history.
How it Happened
The Horned Frogs came out of the gate hot, while the Cyclones struggled offensively. TCU outscored the Cyclones 21-12 in the first quarter, as the Cyclones went just 4-of-13 from the floor. TCU shot 50 percent from the field off 8-of-16 shooting and saw seven different Horned Frogs score.
TCU would hold onto its lead throughout the second quarter, but the Cyclones would come as close as five points from the Horned Frogs after a layup from Meredith Burkhall, 25-20. Carleton would lead the way for the Cyclones in the first half with six points and 10 rebounds, marking her fifth-career game with double figure rebounds. Jadda Buckley led Iowa State with eight points off 4-of-6 shooting.
Iowa State would kick off the third quarter with a bang, going on a 10-0 run to erase the Horned Frog's lead and take a 37-36 lead over TCU that was highlighted by two 3-pointers by Carleton and Buckley and capped off as Buckley stole the inbounds pass and grabbed a layup. The third quarter would be a back-and-forth affair that featured 10 lead changes. TCU would end the third quarter with a slight edge, 54-51.
In the fourth quarter, the Cyclones battled and kept the game close but were unable to overcome TCU's three-point lead. TCU would go on to win, 79-69.

*Iowa State has now hit a 3-pointer in an NCAA-record 667 games.
*Meredith Burkhall reached double figures for the 11th time in her career with a career-high 18 points.
* Seanna Johnson netted double figures for the 59th time in her career.
*Carleton grabbed a double-double for the fifth time in her career with 14 points a career-high 19 rebounds.
*Her 19 rebounds were the most ever by an Iowa State freshman and the most by a freshman since Brittney Griner tallied 21 in 2010.
