IRVING, Texas – The Iowa State women's basketball team placed four student-athletes on the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 teams. The Cyclones' Madison Baier and Claire Ricketts earned spots on the first team, while Nicole “Kidd” Blaskowsky and Jadda Buckley were named to the second team.
Baier and Ricketts each earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for the first time and were two of the 39 Big 12 players to be named to the first team. Baier is a senior child, adult and family services major. She returned to the ISU lineup after being injured much of the 2015-16 season. She has competed in 10 games this season. Ricketts is a hospitality major and has appeared in 24 games for the Cyclones. She was named to the Big 12 Academic All-Rookie team last season.
Blaskowsky is a senior commination studies major and has started in 24 games this season, while averaging 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Buckley is a marketing major and has started every game this season while averaging 11.4 points and 6.0 assists, which ranks third in the Big 12 and in the top-20 nationally.
All four Cyclones are first-time Academic All-Big 12 honorees.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
The Cyclones will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. at No. 4 Baylor. The game will air on FSSW Plus.
