AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team is back in California this weekend for the LBSU Louisville Slugger Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. The Cyclones will face No. 14 UCLA, Long Beach State (RV), Utah Valley, Cal State Fullerton and UC-Santa Barbara at the tournament.

Cyclone Headlines
1. Iowa State (11-8 overall) travels to Long Beach, Calif. for the LBSU Louisville Slugger Invitational. The Cyclones will face No. 14 UCLA, UC-Santa Barbara, Utah Valley, Cal State Fullerton and the host school, Long Beach State once each over the weekend.
2. The Cyclones went 1-4 last weekend at Mercer's Black and Orange Challenge in Macon, Ga. Iowa State's victory came via 11-3 run-rule over Fordham.
3. Junior Rachel Hartman hit the first grand slam of her career in the ISU win over Fordham. Hartman came to the plate with the bases loaded and ISU leading 7-3 in the sixth inning. She launched the 4-run shot to end the game, 11-3. The junior's 4-RBI game was also a career-high.
4. Senior Brittany Gomez is currently on a career-long 17-game hitting streak, just two games shy of the current school record of 18 games set by teammate and fellow senior Aly Cappaert during the 2015 season.
5. Gomez had three multi-hit games over the weekend at the Black and Orange Challenge, while taking the Big 12 lead in hits on the season with 26. She is averaging 1.37 hits a game in 2016.
6. The top of the Iowa State lineup has proven especially crucial for the Cyclone offense so far this season. The lead-off batters Gomez and Bingham have scored 17 runs each, in a tie for No. 2 in the Big 12. Those two account for 35 percent of all ISU runs (34-of-98).
7. Cappaert has six home runs so far this season, including two in ISU's 8-5 victory over Ball State on 2-19. The senior is currently tied atop the Big 12 home run standings.
8. Freshman pitcher Emma Hylen was a key to Iowa State's success at the Aggie Invitational. Hylen went 2-1 in four appearances at the Aggie Invitational, giving up just five earned runs in 16.1 innings.
9. On the season, Hylen has pitched 48.1 innings, ranking third in the Big 12 in innings pitched. She is the only freshman in the top 7 of that category.
10. Freshman Savannah Sanders was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week following her 3-0 weekend at the Cyclone Indoor Invitational. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native had a 0.81 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 17.1 innings of work. Sanders is currently 4-0 on the season.
11. Hylen and Sanders both rank among the Big 12's top-10 in opponent batting averge. Hylen ranks No. 2 (.190), while Sanders is No. 10 (.248).
