AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team finished the 2015-16 season with a 13-17 record and 5-13 Big 12 record. An injury-laden season attributed to the Cyclones missing out on their first postseason appearance since the 2002-03 season, snapping a streak of nine-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. The Cyclones are now one of 15 teams nationally to make nine of the last 10-straight NCAA Tournaments.
Cyclone Headlines
-Iowa State (13-17, 5-13 Big 12) concluded the 2015-16 season with a first-round loss in the Big 12 Tournament. Despite missing the postseason for the first time since the 2002-03 season, the Cyclones remain one of just 15 schools to make the NCAA Tournament in nine of the last 10 years. The season was highlighted by breakout seasons from Seanna Johnson and freshman Bridget Carleton.
- Three Cyclones were honored on All-Big 12 postseason teams as Seanna Johnson led the way when she was named to the All-Big 12 first-team for the first time in her career. Jadda Buckley and Bridget Carleton each earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors as Carleton was also one of two unanimous selections to the All-Freshman team. Carleton was the only Big 12 freshman to earn honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
- Johnson is tied for 29th in the nation in double-doubles this season with 14 and second among Big 12 players. Johnson's 27 career double-doubles ranks fifth in school history. She is two double-doubles away from tying Stephannie Smith with 29 in her career. Johnson (797) now ranks eighth all-time in school history in career rebounds. Her 262 rebounds this season ranks fourth all-time by ISU juniors.
- Johnson finished the season as the only player in the nation averaging 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She also ranked second in the Big 12 in both points and rebounds and will enter her senior campaign as the top returner in the Big 12.
Buckley dished 6.0 assists per game, which ranked third in the Big 12 and 14th in the nation. Her 179 assists on the season ranks 32nd in the nation and fourth in school history among ISU sophomores.
- Iowa State's starting lineup was tied for the fifth-youngest starting lineup among power five teams. Iowa State is tied with Kansas for the youngest starting lineup in the Big 12. The Cyclones were the only Big 12 team to start two freshmen.
- Senior Kidd Blaskowsky finished her career ranking eighth all-time in school history with 217 career 3-pointers. She also ranks seventh in school history with 634 3-point attempts.
- Carleton ranks 16th in the Big 12 and second among freshmen in points per game (11.4). Carleton also ranks ninth in the Big 12 and is first among freshmen with 6.9 boards per game. Carleton's 23 points vs. TCU is the highest in Big 12 play by a freshman. Her 19 rebounds vs. TCU is also tied for the most rebounds by any Big 12 player this season, along with being fourth in school history.
- Carleton was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week five times, which tied Johnson and Megan Taylor for the most in school history.
- The 2015-16 season marked the 21st in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, which is the most of any Big 12 team since 1997. Fennelly boasts a 447-223 record at Iowa State and a 613-276 record in his 27-year career as a head coach. His 613 career wins lists him in the top-20 in the NCAA among active coaches.
