AMES, Iowa – Tyler Rutherford, who has been a member of the Iowa State athletics department for the last 10 years, has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Digital Media.
Rutherford played an integral role in the technological advances made within the Iowa State athletics department. He started his career in 2005 after graduating from Iowa State, becoming the school's first website coordinator.
Rutherford helped launch the Cyclones.tv Mediacom channel which is dedicated solely to Iowa State Athletics. Cyclones.tv is available in 500,000 homes in the state of Iowa and surrounding states. Led by Rutherford, the Cyclones.tv staff of five full-time employees and 10 students broadcast more than 125 live events a year. Iowa State is one of three schools in the country to operate a 24/7 television channel (BYU and Texas).
Cyclones.tv set a record for active online subscribers during the 2015-16 academic year.
"For more than 10 years, Tyler has been front-and-center with our department's communication efforts especially on the technological front," Senior Associate AD Steve Malchow said. "As the department's first website coordinator along with his key role during the launch of Cyclones.tv and various other digital initiatives, Tyler has kept our department at the forefront technologically. He has been an exemplary employee and it's neat to see him rewarded for his consistent excellence and dedication."
