STILLWATER, Okla. - The Iowa State soccer team (7-2-0, 1-0-0 Big 12) defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (5-4-2. 0-1-0 Big 12), 1-0, Fridaynight. Freshman Hannah Cade provided the difference-maker in the Big 12 opener off a Kasey Opfer assist to begin the 2016 Big 12 conference schedule with a 1-0 start.Â
Â
Turning Point of the Game
In the 31st minute, the Cyclones took possession of the ball in the midfield and went on the attack. Sophomore Kasey Opfer advanced the ball and freshman Hannah Cade timed a perfect run behind the Cowgirl's defense. Opfer chipped the ball past Oklahoma State's backline and Cade struck the ball perfectly off of the bounce. Cade rocketed the shot where no goalkeeper would be able to save it and the ball dipped just under the crossbar to give the Cyclones the 1-0 lead.
Â
Oklahoma State wasn't about to go down easy. The Cowgirls went into desperation mode late in the second half looking for the equalizer, but the Cyclones' defense and goalkeeper, Lindsey Hendon, held their ground. Oklahoma State fired eight shots and six corner kicks in the second half.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Hannah Cade. The entire team is more-than-deserving of this honor, but the freshman's highlight-worthy, game-winning goal in the conference opener on the road takes the cake. Cade's goal was Iowa State's first Big 12 goal by a freshman since Kaeli Flaska scored the lone goal in a 6-1 loss to Kansas in 2011.

Coach Said It
"It was a good road win in the Big 12, especially at Oklahoma State, which is a really tough place to play. They are a very well-coached, talented team. It's huge for us, especially the 1-0 shutout. It wasn't the prettiest game. I thought we came out a little slow. It took us a while to find our footing. Kasey Opfer came in and brought a lot of energy off the bench. She played an incredible ball and then Hannah Cade made an unbelievable goal that was very highlight-worthy. We have grit. We found a way to win. We blocked a lot of shots. If one person got beat, another person was there to step in and defend. We did what we had to do to win. At the end of the day, we are going Texas Tech with three points and another chance for a good result."
