AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling team (1-4, 1-3 Big 12) opens 2017 with a home matchup against No. 19 Arizona State (1-1, 0-1 Pac 12). The dual is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Alongside the wrestling mat will be the Iowa State gymnastics squad, competing against the Arizona State gymnasts. This will be the first of two Beauty and the Beast events in 2017.
The Cyclones come into their first home dual of the season having finished 12th place at the 2016 Midlands Championships. ISU finished with three medalists that included fourth-place Earl Hall, fifth-place Kanen Storr and runner-up Lelund Weatherspoon.

Scouting Arizona State
The Sun-Devils haven't seen much dual action this season, but will bring a young, highly touted lineup into Hilton Coliseum.
The Valencia brothers, a pair of stand out redshirt-freshmen, highlight the ASU lineup. At 174, Zahid Valencia is ranked No. 4 in the country and most recently won the Midlands Championships. His brother, Anthony, is No. 11 at 165 pounds.
Heavyweight Tanner Hall is ranked fifth in the nation coming into the dual. He too picked up a title in Evanston at the Midlands Championships.
ISU vs. ASU History
- Iowa State leads the all-time series, 27-7.
- The Cyclones have won the last 10 of the last 11 meetings, dating back to 2004.
- The Sun Devils edged the Cyclones last season in a 23-18 contest.
