AMES, Iowa – The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum announced that Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser is a member of this year's Glen Brand Hall of Fame Class. Dresser, along with the rest of the class, will be inducted into the prestigious hall on June 9, 2018.
Dresser, a Humboldt native, was a two-time Iowa high school state champion while wrestling for the Wildcats. He went on to have a prolific career at the University of Iowa, earning All-America honors twice and securing the 1986 national title at 142 pounds. As a coach, he took the Virginia Tech wrestling program to new heights during his 11-year tenure in Blacksburg, culminating with the team's first trophy finish in school history (4th) at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Former Iowa State national champion and current South Dakota State head coach Chris Bono is also being inducted. Ed Banach, who currently serves as the assistant director of compliance, will be honored with his two brothers, twin Lou and older brother Steve, and son Riley, with the Family Legacy Award. Ed and Lou combined for five individual NCAA championships and each won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics while Steve was a United States Army Ranger who served multiple combat tours.
The Glen Brand Hall of Fame was established in 2002 to honor those individuals who have made an impact on the sport on a national level, or who have done extraordinary work in the State of Iowa. The hall recognizes native-born Iowans, and those who achieved their fame while wrestling or coaching for an Iowa school.
