Bonadonna Wins First In Bracket At CSUN Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Iowa State tennis team completed play at the CSUN Invitational with Annabella Bonadonna going unbeaten in singles action.Â
Bonadonna went on to defeat Tia Elpusan of UC-Riverside, bouncing back with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory. Ekaterina Repina, Margarita Timakova and Karen Alvarez also came out with wins, while Regina Espindola was unable to come back with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 loss to Sarah Nuno of Cal State Fullerton. Repina finished 6-3, 6-3 over Westmont's Cade Pierson, while Margarita Timakova grabbed a 6-2, 7-5 win against Cassandra Moraleji of Youngstown State. Karen Alvarez also completed the day with a 4-6, 2-1, Ret. Win over Mariko Sagara of Cal State Los Angeles.Â
Espindola and Alvarez broke their doubles winning streak of the weekend, falling 6-3 to a pair from CSUN. Meanwhile, the remaining Cyclone pairings came out with wins. Repina and Timakova finished 6-3 over a duo from UCR, while Erin Freeman and Bonadonna won 6-3 over a CSUF pairing. Â
The Cyclones have now finished their fall season and will begin their spring campaign with a home match against Augustana and South Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 27.Â
