October Student-Athletes Of The Month Announced

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development announced on Tuesday that four Cyclone student-athletes have been honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the month of October The students being honored are Sean Foster (Football), Josie Herbst (Volleyball), Michael Jacobson (Men's Basketball) and Tessa Krempel (Women's Track & Field)
Sean Foster – Redshirt Freshman (Football)
Hometown:Â Mundelein, Ill.
Major:Â Pre-Business
Foster redshirted his initial season on campus in 2016, but has been a major factor for the Cyclones on the offensive line during this campaign. The native of Mundelein, Ill., has appeared in six games, including his first career start at Akron. Foster also started in Iowa State's game at West Virginia.
Josie Herbst – Sophomore (Outside Hitter)
Hometown:Â Davenport, Iowa
Major:Â Child, Adult and Family Services
Herbst arrived at Iowa State at the start of the Spring 2017 semester after playing her first collegiate season at UNLV. The sophomore has appeared in seven matches this season, including an eight-kill performance in three sets on Aug. 26 vs. Omaha.
Michael Jacobson – Junior (Forward)
Hometown:Â Waukee, Iowa
Major:Â Finance
Jacobson will sit out the 2017-18 season per NCAA rules after transferring to ISU from Nebraska. Jacobson started all 31 games for the Huskers a year ago, averaging 6.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in 24 minutes per game. He ranked second the Big Ten, averaging 3.3 offensive rebounds per game in league play.
Tessa Krempel – Senior (Throws)
Hometown:Â Columbus, Ind.
Major:Â Biology
Krempel, a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, is coming off a strong outdoor campaign to wrap up the 2016-17 season. Krempel, who arrived at Iowa State after two seasons at Western Kentucky, scored for the Cyclones with an eighth-place finish and personal best of 172-11 in the hammer throw at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
The Iowa State OSAD's Student-Athlete of the Month program was implemented by Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services Patrice Feulner. Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
