AMES, Iowa - Iowa State had nine student-athletes named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team, tied for second-most in the league. The conference office announced all 57 honorees on Thursday afternoon.
ISU had seven first team honorees: Nychole Antillon, Cathlin Bingham, Rachel Hartman, Kaila Konz, Kelsey McFarland, Savannah Sanders and Brianna Weilbacher. Kaylee Bosworth and Emma Hylen were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Antillon, Bingham and Konz are all two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honorees, while McFarland was named to the second team in 2016. For Sanders, Hylen and Bosworth, this is the first year that they were eligible for the award, as freshmen and transfer students are not considered in their first year of academic residence.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
