AMES, Iowa – Jamie Trachsel was named the head softball coach at Minnesota today, leaving Iowa State after one season at the program's helm. Trachsel, a native of Duluth, Minn., guided the Cyclones to a 23-35 record in 2017, including a 6-12 mark in Big 12 play to finish fifth overall in the conference.
The Cyclones emerged down the stretch, winning six of their last seven Big 12 games, surging to the program's highest conference finish since 1994. Included in that late-season run was the first series win over Texas in program history, as the Cyclones took two out of three games off the Longhorns in Austin.
Iowa State closed the season with a three-game sweep of Kansas to secure the No. 5 seed at the Big 12 Championship. It was ISU's first sweep of a Big 12 opponent since the 2013 season
Iowa State will begin an extensive, national search for its next head softball coach.
