AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball team went 2-0 on Saturday in fall ball action with wins over Kirkwood Community College and MidAmerica Nazarene at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

Kirkwood jumped out to an early lead, as the Eagles' lead-off batter Rachel Stewart drew a walk, and later scored on an RBI double by DoniRae Mayhew.
The Cyclones answered right back, putting a run on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Sami Williams collected a two-out base hit, and later scored when clean-up hitter Sydney Stites reached on a Kirkwood error.
A six-run second inning then broke the game wide open for Iowa State. Talyn Lewis opened the frame being hit by pitch, followed by consecutive base hits by Nychole Antillon, Logan Schaben, Hannah Carter and Kaila Konz. Taylor Nearad, a junior college transfer from Kirkwood, then cleared the bases with a triple to extend the Cyclone lead to 5-0. Nearad would later score on an RBI by Williams, while Stites tacked on one more run via an Eagle error.
The fourth inning was more of the same, as Nearad opened the frame with a double, before being brought in to score on an RBI triple by Williams. Stites would once again reach on an error in the ensuing at-bat, scoring Williams from third.
The Cyclones tacked on one more run in the seventh, as Nearad came through with her second triple of the day, before scoring on a Williams RBI single.
ISU pitchers Brianna Weilbacher and Savannah Sanders combined to hold the Eagles to just one run on three hits on the day. Weilbacher started and put in four innings of work, giving up one earned run on one hit, to go with six strikeouts. Sanders surrendered just two hits, while ringing up three strikeouts.

Nearad and Williams once again keyed a fast start for the Cyclones, as Iowa State was able to hang a pair of runs on the board in the first inning. The duo picked up back-to-back base hits and were later brought in to score as Cara Beatty and Kaylee Bosworth reached on fielder's choices, giving Iowa State an early 2-0 lead.
The lead quickly grew to 6-0 behind a four-run second inning that included base hits from Hannah Carter, Williams, Bosworth and Lewis. Iowa State also capitalized on a MidAmerica Nazarene fielding error in the frame. Logan Schaben and Jackie Chairez helped the Cyclones tack on wo more runs in the fourth inning, as Iowa State went on to win 8-0.
Emma Hylen started in the circle for the Cyclones against Nazarene. The junior held the Pioneer offense in check, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters without issuing a walk in four innings. Freshman Julie Lewis closed the day out, pitching the game's final three innings. Lewis only surrendered one hit on a double in the fifth inning.

Iowa State is headed to the annual All-Iowa Classic in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday. The Cyclones open the tournament by taking on Iowa on Saturday at 1 p.m.
