Cancini Advances To Quarterfinals At ITA Regionals

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa State junior Maty Cancini earned two more victories Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regionals at the University of Iowa.
In the Round of 16, Cancini upset third-seeded Marina Guinart of Oklahoma State, 7-5, 6-2. In her second match of the day, Cancini downed Kansas' No. 24 seed Plobrung Plipuech, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.
She will face Nina Khmelnitckaia from Kansas Monday in the quarterfinals.
Ekaterina Grib stayed alive on the consolation side of the bracket with two victories Sunday. The freshman began the day by defeating Laura Rico-Garcia of Oklahoma, 6-3, 6-3. She then downed Nebraska's Marina Cozac, 7-6, 1-6, 10-6 to end the day.
